France was ranked 11th by the 2018 European Innovation Scoreboard for research and innovation.
The European Innovation Scoreboard ranks countries according to changes compared with the EU average in 2010 in four categories based on their innovation performance. These include innovation champions, notable innovators, moderate innovators and modest innovators.
Finishing in 11th place this year, France remained stable and featured in the notable innovators category. The United Kingdom was ranked fifth (stable), while Germany took seventh place (-1). Sweden remains top of the rankings, ahead of Denmark and Finland.
France’s key strengths are in areas such as corporate finance (venture capital and R&D expenditure, research systems (international development of universities), workforce skills and business innovation.
