Montpellier’s Business Innovation Center (BIC) has been named one of the world’s top three incubators in the latest UBI Global Rankings, finishing in second place after Dublin.
Renowned as a pioneer among technology incubators in France and Europe, Montpellier’s BIC is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is already enjoying international acclaim, having been awarded numerous prizes for its services and support programs.
The center was created with the help of the Cap Alpha incubator in Clapiers, just outside Montpellier, before expanding with the opening of two further incubation sites, Cap Omega and Mibi, within the city’s Millénaire business park. BIC supports startups for the first few years following their establishment, and has helped businesses including Teads, Aquafadas, Neotic and Medtech, all of which are now leading companies in their respective markets.
“Montpellier is the only city in France to feature since 2014 in the UBI Global Rankings of the world’s top 10 startup incubators. We are very proud that our efforts have helped raise the profile of the Montpellier region and have made our companies stand out on the international stage. This recognition will encourage us to continue fostering innovation and job creation in the region,” said Philippe Saurel, Mayor of Montpellier and President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Intermunicipal Council.
