France maintained its position as the leading wine exporter in the world at the International Organization of Vine and Wine Awards in April, with sales of €8.9 billion in 2017.
Three of the top buyers of French wine were Germany, the United Kingdom and China whose imports shot up last year by 17%. French wine is becoming increasingly popular internationally, with two out of five bottles of French wine consumed abroad.
Champagne, a French export favorite, continues to stay ahead of all its rivals. With €3.1 billion of bottles sold worldwide, champagne alone accounts for more than half of all sales, and brings in twice as much revenue as its Italian rivals.
